SPECIAL FOCUS DISTRICTS : Introduction

Bidar, Dakshina Kannada, Gulbarga districts have a high and significant minority (Muslims) population. Incidentally Bidar – Gulbarga districts are also in the north eastern belt of the state which constitutes most backward region. The Gulbarga district was split-up into 2 revenue districts during 2009-10. as Gulbarga and Yadgir districts. Dakshina kannada district is a prosperous districts with minorities as one of the major chunk of population. Bidar has 19.69%, D.K-22.07% and Gulburga-17.60 % of muslim population.

Likewise the Kolar district population is dominated by SC. The population is 27.40%. This is also a district that records perennially low rainfall enjoys more dry spell in the year. Similar is the case with Chikkaballapura district which was carved out of Kolar district during 2008-09 as it constituted a highly backward region of a backward district. Education growth in this region has been bit slow over the years. There is a disparity between the number of primary schools and the upper primary schools. During 2009-10 the ratio was more than 3:1. [LPS-1077, HPS-515]With SSA support and other government initiatives  the ratio has been reduced to 2:1.

The state of Karnataka has 5 (Five) special focus districts. There are no districts fall under programme Category Group, and no districts fall under category B (ACR Gap>3000 above), Category C (OOSC>20,000 & Gender gaps). Given below is the status of the districts:
